I had a short visit to the Samburu people in the Maralal region of Kenya.

Our goal was to see the need for development in an area where less than 2% of the population receives an education. This is a place where even the Mayor of the town we visited is starting grade one!
This region is really lacking in development though I found countless NGOs in the county.

My assessment of the county is that it needs prayers, schools and water.
One good thing I did see is that someone started a greenhouse in the region. That was a happy moment for me when I saw the greenhouse.

| In pastoral communities you see goats everywhere. These ones are grazing by the water tanks which are located near the greenhouse. | . |

| It's great to see tomatos growing here! |

Enjoy the pics and please pray for these dear people.

ReplyDeleteThank you for bringing us news and photos from a faraway place that most people from elsewhere will never see.
ReplyDeleteIt really helps to put people and their needs into perspective. I pray that many would be able to help the people of Samburu to become able to support their food needs in such an isolated and dry place. God bless. xx
what a great experience for you! wonderful photos as well! have a great Sunday!

So interesting - and I appreciated the maps to give me a sense of location. The pictures make you feel you're there. I wonder what else they grow in that lovely greenhouse... Nice post.

In Singapore, for sixteen years, my friends and I (a group of faculty wives and husbands) raised funds for the Deaf Children in Kenya. The school is Oyugi School for the Deaf in Kenya.
ReplyDeleteI came across you via Joyful.
Thanks for visiting me.
You are doing a fantastic job. Great photos. I love Africa after living there for 50 years. I now live in France and we are covered in white snow!! Diane
ReplyDeleteVery interesting & I hope they receive some education, soon. It's hard to imagine, but I know it's needed very badly!
ReplyDeleteGod bless & I'll definitely pray for them!!! =)
Such an inspiring story and mission... thank you for sharing it with us!
ReplyDeletebeautiful photos of your visit. thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAmazed and delighted to see tomatoes growing there! A testament to the gardener!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by my blog and leaving a thoughtful comment, Jonah. Bless you for all that you do. :)
Fascinating. We take so much for granted, don't we? Hope the county gets what it needs and more!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonah, for sharing this interesting blog with us!
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed it very much...
Greetings from Holland,
Anna :-))
It's so sad that there are still many places on Earth where such basic things as good food and education are luxury for most people...
ReplyDeleteI agree about the water and schools. Prayers are fine for believers. Missionaries sometimes confuse priorities. But if the price of water is to listen to a few prayers, well, what the hay eh.
ReplyDeleteFascinating. Thank you for taking us so far away. Blessings to you.
ReplyDeleteDear Jonah,
ReplyDeleteThank's for sharing your blog with us. May God truly Bless you. Father God, I pray that you will break our hearts for the lost, hurting, and needy. May we be your arms of love, Your words of life and bring hope, water and education. Oh God, take us out of our selfishness and may we dare to believe that you can use us to touch these people. God, give Jonah wisdom, discernment, and the grace to do all that you are calling him to do. I pray all this in Jesus Name.
Blessings to you and prayers for the Kenyan people. I learned something new today- thank you!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of a fascinating part of the world.
