Mama Linet

Hello friends,

I was able to meet Mama Linet on Wednesday of this week. Mama Linet, is of the Luo tribe, like President Obama in USA. She has been away a long time due to a death in the extended family.

I catch a ride to "Mama Linet's."  It is too far to walk there.

I found her doing great and I was so glad to meet her again to see how the children are growing.

You might remember that little Linet is the girl who was losing weight and couldn't eat. She was wasting away but after receiving medical treatment she is doing much better.

 Linet is getting more energy each day and she has started to play with the rest of the kids, and that is very good.

I have given Mama Linet some 'seed' money for her business. She is still thinking about her options for making money through small enterprise. I will be returning to see her again soon and to check on the children and her progress. 

I am grateful for the support that you have extended to this family through prayer and financial gifts.

Visiting the Borehole

It has been a while since I updated my blog. Here is a little of what I've been doing recently.

In early December, I was able to visit the borehole that we drilled three months ago near Marigat. I am still waiting to see if we can get a pump that will help us in getting this water to people so they can use it.

The borehole is a prominent reminder that water exists here in this dry and arid place. It is just waiting to be pumped to the people of the area who are spread out over a vast area.

This water project is near and dear to my heart.

Please continue to think about this project.

I was also able to visit the Lake Bogoria National Park which is located a close distance to where the borehole is located. I loved it!  The Soi Resort is also close by and is situated on the banks of Lake Baringo. There are many things to do here, including taking a guided boat trip to view the local wildlife.

Fishermen supply the boat tour guides with the fish to feed the African eagles.

The Lake Bogoria Spa Resort is also close by and is a few minutes drive from the Lake Bogoria National Park.

A local woman sits by one of the geyers at the lake. The water is extremely hot and many tourists boil eggs in it while they take in the sights.

Local wildlife can be seen in the park.

Just imagine that you can visit all these great places in a span of a half hour or less from the water point! You need to come and visit with us and see these sites for yourself.

Update on the Marigat Well Project

Hello,

I made a quick trip today to Marigat to check on the progress of the water project. I am glad to report that we have a lot of water in this borehole.  It is enough to serve over 5000 people and lots of animals.

We will be test pumping for the next 24 hours at the same rate.

Please pray for the gentlemen who are working on this. The next steps in the project are to write the report, and test the water to see if it is good for use by humans and animals.

We Have Water

Hello,


We have located the water in Marigat, Kenya. I am so excited!

The engineer in charge, Bernard, informed me that we have enough water. More than we need. What a joy this is! For those who study water, Bernard talked of 10 cubic meters. Apparently when drilling water they often get 2 or 3 cubic meters. So we are truly blessed. Bernard is so excited. That is the excitement that comes with getting water for indeed water is life.


By Friday we will have test pumping for 24 hours just to check if the machines measured well. What an excitement this is.

The villagers here have done their part. We have had enough food for the hard working men. The chairman of the project has donated a big, big goat for them, and the chief will do so too. This was all done yesterday at the sight of water. Earlier I had bought some food too for the group just to get us started.


We look forward to the celebrations of 'officially' getting this gift of water from the donors, the Is There Not a Cause team from Trinidad. We are looking forward to that great day. Already gifts of goats and sheep have been given for that 'Big day' which we hope will be maybe October, November or December. Whenever it is, I look forward to it.

In the other pictures, you can see us trying to cross over the River Perkerra. The water was down and we thought we could go and purchase some food in Marigat town. For me it was a tough choice and I had to be courageous to cross this river.

The Gift of Water, Part 3

Drilling is ongoing here in Marigat, Kenya.

Please continue to pray for favour in the eyes of God so that we can get this water.

In the pictures you can see that people and animals really need water here.

A motorbike is a good mode of transportation here in Kenya especially in the hilly parts of the country where it is harder to ride a bicycle.

I've been here in Marigat for a few days now helping to oversee the water project. I can't wait for water to be located and the well to be completed so that the people of Marigat can at last be blessed by the gift of clean water. I will be here for a few days more to see that this water project is a success, Also pray for me as I had some little problem with my skin in the heat today though I seem to be okay now.
