Dr Tokunboh Adeyemo

Dr Adeyemo has died. It is everywhere in the news here in Kenya. His body will be taken to Nairobi Pentecostal Church in Kenya before he is flown to Nigeria, his home country.

Most of his life's work was done in Kenya. He seems to have loved the country after working as the chair of Association of Evangelical churches in Africa, AEA http://www.aeafrica.org/

He also headed a host of other organizations, about 12 different ones. Most of the the organizations are based in Nairobi, and we are so happy for Dr. Adeyemo making Nairobi his base.

I got to know Dr. Adeyemo when I read most of his books and his commentary on the African Bible. He helped develop the African Bible and it is awesome, thoughII have not had a chance to buy it because of its prohibitive cost.

His scholarly works came from doing his ground work well. He had his Bachelor of Theology degree at ECWA Theological Seminary, Igbaja, Nigeria; Masters of Divinity and Theology at Talbot School of Theology of Biola University, California, USA; Doctor of Theology degree at Dallas Theological Seminary, Texas, USA; and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Philosophy at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland (Africa Bible Commentary, xiii).

We will miss you, you were our John Wesley (the founder of Methodist church and the Wesleyan Holiness tradition) here in Africa. It is my prayer that he will rest in eternal peace. Thanks for making Africa where your heart is and for building and developing the African scholars. We saw you as a tall tree, but your works will encourage us all the more.

  1. Thanks be to God for stalwart and faithful men like Dr. Adeyemo. I pray the heart of Kenyan and the doctor's family will be comforted and that he will indeed now find His rest in glory.
