Short Update on Missions

Hello,

Edwin and I will be going to Nairobi in about two days for further cancer treatment.  Last Friday we went for some check up and tests.

At the same please pray for me, and for Kipngeno as we are both in school. You might remember Kipngeno is studying so he can become a doctor.

He still needs a lot of financial support.  He needs the balance of lodging costs and tuition for this semester which is about $500 US dollars. We paid his room for two months and the school has been very caring for him.

We will appreciate your prayers.

Where Things Are At With Edwin

Hello friends,

Thank you for your continued support and prayers. It has been a busy time for me since I wrote you last as I am finalizing my research thesis and hope to finish very soon. Please keep me in prayer.

I also wanted to share an update with you on Edwin; the young man who we have been helping to get treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia.

We had another check up in Nairobi last week as well as getting more medicine for his cancer treatment.

While we were in Nairobi we were so blessed to have several students from the village come by and lend their moral support and encouragement to Edwin. These are village men who are now studying in Nairobi.

We are encouraged by the doctor's report. Edwin's immune system is responding well to treatment so far. We give praise to God for this encouraging report.  We also want to thank you so much for your prayer support and your financial support.

Our next trip to Nairobi will be in early June. We thank you in advance if you are able to help with any of the needs (travel, food, shelter). God bless you and please continue to pray.

Edwin's Travels

Hello,

Edwin

I hope you are doing great. I just want to give you a little update on what is going on here with Edwin's treatment.

I have been trying to help Edwin wherever and however I can. This has meant 3 travels to Nairobi this week and also to Tenwek, and  one more again to Nairobi where they have done several tests on Edwin's chromosomes, and other tests.

We are waiting for the results that were sent our of country for consultations. Our hospitals do have the technology and know how on dealing with the disease.

Edwin's newly married brother and his child stand outside the family home.

Edwin's father reads the  medical report of his son.

Edwin stands overlooking the family farm.

Please continue to pray for Edwin both for healing and for the finances needed for travels and medical treatment.

Edwin Goes to Nairobi (Update 2)

Sorry for not updating sooner about Edwin.  Since I last wrote about Edwin we have been doing a lot of travels back and forth to Nairobi.
Finding our way to the clinic.

Edwin is back in Nairobi again today after just having been there 1 1/2 days ago. Things are moving fast and it is difficult because we have a long journey to and from Nairobi to get treatment.  Today, the check up will concentrate on the chromosomes, and again, in 3 days we will need another journey to Nairobi to get the results.

Waiting to see the doctor.

That is the picture from here at the moment. Continue praying as we need to be able to cover the cost of the treatments and travel back and forth to Nairobi for outpatient treatment and medicines. We are now waiting on the Lord to move on hearts.

This is the pharmacy where we bought the medicine in Nairobi.

If you can help Edwin directly with your finances, please send your gift to us via Pay Pal (see link top right of this site).
We need to raise at least another $100 Canadian by Saturday, March 10, 2012 for Edwin's next trip to Nairobi where he is being treated as an outpatient.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Edwin Goes to Tenwek

The travel to Tenwek with Edwin for further testing went okay. Though all the medical testing and analysis took almost the whole day. You can read the first part of Edwin's story here.

Nonetheless the good thing is that tomorrow we travel to Nairobi for his treatment.
Pray that all that is needed to facilitate the travels are available and the money for the doctor there as well.

Otherwise we are pleased with the attention the Hospital accorded us.

Edwin's Story

The young man's name is Edwin and he is 21.  Recently,  Missions of Hope has helped Edwin to have a Bone Marrow Aspiration test done at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, Kenya.

The medical report says that Edwin has a massive hepatosplenomegaly and is recommended to have a peripheral smear for conclusive opinion of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. This is a serious condition and he needs help for further diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible.

Most Kenyan families cannot cannot afford the cost of medical testing and treatment. Edwin's mama has already sold almost everything they own to get her son the help he needs.

We pray for someone who could help Edwin and his family to continue getting the medical help he needs for a final diagnosis and to get medical treatment as soon as possible.  The more people who know about Edwin, the better chance there is that he will get the help he needs.

We are asking if you would share this story as widely as you can.  If you look at the bottom of this post you will find share buttons. It is very easy to share this story on Facebook and Twitter or via email with your friends.  You can even write a post about Edwin for your own blog and share it with your friends.

If you can help this boy directly with your finances, please let us know or simply send your gift to kerichojoy[at]gmail[com] via Pay Pal. We also value your prayers.

Thank you so much!

UPDATE: FEBRUARY 29, 2012
I will be taking Edwin to the doctor tomorrow (Thursday) to discuss his preliminary test results and next steps. Please keep us in your prayers for the miracle we need for his treatment and healing.
God bless.
